This year’s Festival was held as part of Hendersyde Horse Trials, Kelso with the kind permission of Livy Agnew, owner and organiser of the event. We were especially honoured to have Ian Stark as our Masterclass judge and he did a wonderful job on the day. Huge thanks also to Morag Clark who judged the veteran, in hand and championships, her job was very difficult indeed.
As always, the turnout was excellent. Horses and riders looked wonderful and were a great advert for ex racehorses and their versatility after racing. Indeed, 2 of the horses Silver Bullet with Valerie Fairnington and Kasilia with Amy Brown also competed in the BE event.
Silver Bullet and Valerie finished a very creditable 13th in the BE 100 section F. Kasilia and Amy had a fantastic event finishing in 8th place in the BE 100 section H. Well done to them both. Next year we will be putting up 1st to 6th place ScotNorth rosettes in each of the event sections to recognise the increasing number of ex racehorses that are eventing, and reward them and their riders for their had work.
Now onto the results. The entries in all classes were big so we are only reporting results to 6th place, but well done to everyone who took part.

Now the Festival is done for another year, we are focussing on the Annual Championship Show which is being held at the Scottish Equestrian Hotel, Lanark on 26th September. It is on the site of the old Lanark racecourse so it is a very fitting venue. Horses placed 1st to 3rd in Ridden, Veteran and In Hand classes throughout 2010 have qualified for the respective championship classes. There are also open classes that members do not need to qualify for. If you fancy a nice day out to come and see these fantastic horses showing just how great they are then come down and watch. There are great spectator facilities including an onsite restaurant and licensed bar !! Visit our website www.scotnorthexracers.co.uk for the entry form and more details.
On a less happy note, it has not been a good couple of months for some of us who have had to say goodbye to some dearly loved friends. I said goodbye to my oldest and dearest friend Rambo (Winter Ramble), he had a great innings but old age was getting the better of him and I did not want him to lose his dignity. Lorna Scoular also had to make a heartbreaking decision say goodbye to her lovely girl Millie after a long battle with Navicular. Making that decision is the hardest thing in the world but it is our responsibility to ensure our horses have a great quality of life and when that is no longer possible it is our biggest and final act of love to say goodbye and let them go play over the Rainbow Bridge. There will be memorial trophies for Rambo and Millie next year and they will never be forgotten.
Not wanting to end on such a sad note, whilst the showing season is drawing to a close we still have plenty of events planned and look forward to seeing horses and riders at these. Dates and events are as follows.
28th August- ScotNorth ridden and in hand classes at South Durham Showing Group Annual Show
29th August - ScotNorth open show jumping show at Fieldings Equestrian Centre
30th August - ScotNorth ridden and in hand classes at Glendale Agricultural Show, Wooler
4th September - ScotNorth in hand and ridden classes at Edinburgh and District RC annual show
11th September - ScotNorth ridden and in hand classes at the British Elite Championships, Arena UK
12th September - ScotNorth ridden and in hand classes at Strathkendrick RC Show

So, if you own an ex racehorse and have not already registered with us, please do so and you will meet some lovely people, wonderful horses and have a great time attending our events.
