ok, ive been looking into getting some oil to put into angels feed, been told it can help with condition, coat, suppleness etc.
so whats my best bet, thought it might be simple but theres actually quite alot to choose from eg. linseed oil, cod liver oil, omega oil, profeet liquid (obv that one aiming at feet) global herbs flax oil etc
so in experience which works best

hey there. All what we used to use in the racing yard with over 70 horses was ordinary sunflower oil. A glug in the morn and a glug at nite and they all had shiney coats. But you will find a lot of feed companies all ready have some sort of oil in with the feed. It all depends what you are hoping to acheive. x

I use dengie alpha-a oil, they have nice shiny coats on it and seem to do well on it. Wouldn't have a clue if I was adding it on its own though. A bag lasts a while too.

My lot do really well on the Alfa-A Oil. I used to add sunflower oil too - the cheap stuff from Lidl! Not sure that it really made that much of a difference.
If I'm fattening the skinnies I use cheapo Bailey's HiFibre cubes (used to be called Baileys ecomony) and a scoop of Alfa A Oil. Also the Top Spec balancer makes them keep weight on really well. I'll be getting another bag of that when I get paid!
ETA - I religiously used to feed Atomic Cod Liver Oil but i reckoned it was too good for his brain and made him sharper! (I know Fish Oils make my brain quicker) I prefer him with a dull brain!

I have just started to add oil to eyes feed under instruction from the vets due to a rather long tying up problem he is on 1 cup of sunflower oil so I will see how this does with him although he does have a rather shiny coat as it is and is on top spec feed balancer which I swear by.

I love adding oil to the feeds to improve condition, coat bloom and calories. Plus calories also mean energy. All the 'specialist' oils such as soya and linseed are really expensive. I use tesco veg oil. Its the cheapest option and is actually rapeseed oil ( I study the small print). You can increase the amount fed slowly to half a cup full. My O.H. bought alfa-a oil chaff for his mare but its more expensive than regular chaff and I prefer to know exactly how much oil I'm adding to feeds.
