Now Millie is just 13 this year, but with her having jumped alot in her younger years, I would like to start her on something. She is not at all lame or stiff but believe prevention is better than cure.
I used to sell some glucosamine supplements that the vets recommend but a) they are quite expensive and b) she isn't actually lame or arthritic etc well just the navicular!
I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but I like to hear other peoples recommendations before I buy, can anyone suggest something? What about the older girls and guys on here that do our veteran classes what do you feed them?
xx

I was thinking this about Bobby, he's 16 now, ( yrs of racing and 5 Years of showing with me, and sometimes he's a little stiff coming out of the stable on a morning. He's already on Alpha Oil, and he won't eat his feed with a liquid oil in it, so I was thinking of a product called TLC. He's been on it before, and it can be used either as a balancer or a broad spectrum supplement. I have had him on Devils Claw and he did well on that and it doesn't work out that expensive.

Allie had early stage arthritis in his hocks & was on Cortaflex for ages. Still a wee bit stiff when you first mounted up, but loosened after 5 minutes in walk.
Bought NAF Superflex, coz it was on a BOGOF offer & it was brilliant! Took Allie back to being a 4y.o. - not cheap, but very effective & IMO, worth every penny.

I feed Rambo Old Faithful Special Blend and he is looking GREAT on it (compared to last year when he was on normal feed) and it is full of various supplements that the older horses need.
Maybe that would be cheaper then supplements etc ??

yip your right prevention is better as once the bone starts to deterioate there is nothing much can be done to reverse it in arthritis the cartalige disapears so the 2 bones grind together as there is nothing to pad them and with constant grinding the bones start break away and thats where the pain comes from - so by feeding a supplement you can stop the cartalige from disa pearin in the first place cortafex is good and not too dear i used to use blue chip dynamic and it was amazing but its dear tho - the vets told me he was starting to get arthritic changes and would not be able to jump agian - i started to feed blue chip Dynamic and in 3 mnths time he was winning XCs again and i got another 3 years of competing out of him
