How much feeding are your horses getting? this is what Eddie's on - 1 scoop of calm & condition, 1 good scoop of fibrebeet (wet ), as much fibre chaff as I can get between my hands & 250grms of topspec feed balancer, carrots, he gets this in the morning & then the same at night & it's a huge bucket load but it is mostly fibre. Does this sound ok? He eats for Scotland & he would eat more if I gave him the opportunity. He has a big holed hay net and a big small holed hay net at night (he doesn't always eat all his small holed haynet as he can't be bothered to pull it out the wee holes) & he has a small holed hay net in the field which he does normally eat that through the day. He gets excercised 5 times a week & we'll be starting lessons at the weekend shortly. I'm interested to know how much feeding your TB's are on.

Well Bob is on a scoop of sugarbeet (full fat one), 1 scoop of No 4, one scoop of Alfa oil, carrots in his feed and carrots in his ball. he has the feed twice a day and his ball on a night he has a huge haynet on a night. He is lucky if he gets ridden 3 times a week so this is what I have to feed him just to keep his weight on.

coisty isnt a tb but he gets a scoop of sugar beet and a half scoop of chaff and a half a 1/4 scoop of barley and a 1/4 scoop of oats and top tubs of top spec, hes not ridden much just now but when he is the oats and barley are uped and the chaff reduced! i read in the baileys website that horses cant digest anymore than 2.5 scoops of feed at a time, feeding anymore than that just goes straight through them and undigested food in the gut can cause behaviour probs and alcers!!! that includes fiber (chaff) so your better feeding an extra scoop of nuts rather than a scoop of chaff. cos hay is chewed and eaten slower this doesnt count

That puts my mind at rest. I think he's getting quite similar feeds to some of your horses

Tanith the TB gets one stubbs scoop of Alfa A, biotin, garlic, mint and carrots. At night she gets a small scoop (not stubbs) of H&P nuts in her snack ball.
Shiraz is more or less the same but gets veteran supplement instead of biotin and a small scoop (not stubbs) of nuts in her feed.
Dinah is 1/2 scoop of alfa a, gp supplement, flex free, garlic, mint and succulents.
They are out grazing all day and have ad-lib hay and haylage at nights (apart from D who just gets one small holed net of haylage and loads of hay). They get fed the above for breakfast and any leftovers are dinner!
I'm practically starving my lot compared to yours!!

Jad gets twice a day ;
1 scoop Spillers veteran mix 1 scoop Dengie Hi Fi Sugar beet to mix Red cell Carrots & apples Ad lib haylage
Bobby has;
3/4 scoop Spillers cool mix 1 scoop Dengie Hi Fi Sugar beet to mix Global Herbs Immuplus Carrots & apples 1 soaked hay net (3 sections) plus whatever haylage Jad has left & maybe another fresh leaf if not much!
They also have a little mini meal (supper!!) at 10pm whilst getting skipped out & hay etc topped up! Spoilt brats!! Turned out from 6.45am to 4pm - no hay in field unless frosty/hard ground. Only ridden once a week each but both hold their weight well & don't 'flip' too much on the above!

Coz of my ankle rebuild, my lot are on zero work & 24/7 turnout on 22 acres of hill farm grass i.e not too rich. They also have 2 big round bales of hay to pick at, which are generating no interest at all. Dennis & Flynn get 1.5 big scoops of Alfa -A, 1x sugarbeet & a big slug of oil twice a day. Tammy the Welsh C & Dougie Donk get a wee bit of Safe & Sound with some sugarbeet twice a day. Flynn is looking positively porky, Dougs is perfect and Dennis & Tammy are a bit underweight, coz Flynn finishes his own & then chases everyone else.. Dunno how to feed them more without physically restraining Flynn - suggestions welcome!

alliecat i wouldnt think that loosing a wee bit weight while off in winter is that bad i mean in the wild horses are naturally skinny in winter as long as they have rugs on im sure theyl be fine and dandy
