Hi everyone, Can I pick your brains, I'm thinking of putting Stinky (formerly known as Nyx) onto a near as natural diet. I was wondering if any of you feed simple systems feeds to your four legged partners and how they go on it? I'm trying to find a feed that suits her, at the moment it's trial and error and would appreciate ant input or thought you may have

Hi, I used Simple Systems about 4 or 5 years ago on a Purebred Arab and a PBA. I liked the idea of the whole thing, but found it very expensive and time consuming to deal with!! Everthing has to be soaked prior to feeding and the quantites that I was advised to feed was ludicrous in comparision to the size of the horse eating it!!! Jane told me that they would trickle feed all night in the stable with their feed, but my greedy two guzzled it down within 20 minutes! I was feeding Luci Nuts, Luci Bix and Total Eclipse. They were both getting about 2 black buckets full a day and it was just getting silly. I was concerned about the quantities that I was giving them but was assured by SS that it was correct. Sadly because there was no where to buy SS in Scotland, I had to buy a pallet at a time from SS themselves and that of course created another problem of storage when you only have 2 horses!!! My purebred arab started to lose condition on it after 3 months and became quite nippy and arguementative. My PBA though looked great and was his usual self. I guess it really depends upon the horse. I am now feeding Allen & Page's Fast Fibre along with Halleys Greengold which is pure lucerne with nothing added. SS sell this at a silly price!!! I guess you are paying for the haulage there! Both of my boys look great and I am not having to feed such large quantities as a result.

Hi Jaynedge,
Yeah that's the problem I would have no one stocks it in Newcastle, and the amounts they have suggested I feed Nyx would mean 3-4 feeds a day. I have no where to store a pallets worth either.
I know she needs some weight on as she's a bit light but she's also young so don't want to be putting too much into her which could lead to problems.
Not sure what to do for the best, would like to have her as natural as she'll allow.
They suggested the same feed as yours were on.
Arghh WHAT TO DO!

i think claire with Cheif feeds that SS stuff
to be honest iv tried allt he conditioning feeds and im not really conviced they work as well as the money is worth - they are sooo expensive!!! argy is now on 1xspeedi beet, 1xAlfa A Oil and 1/2 ;Dcheapo pony nuts and gets this 3 times a day as well as all ablib haylage both in the field and stable at night
i think him eating all day long has been the best thing to put weight on him

I've PM'd her to ask her views. Nyx is currently on Alfa A, conditioning cubes and some beet to damp it down. I've had to reduce the conditioning cubes as they make her fruit loopy at the recommended amount twice a day. Out from 5.30am till late and ad-lib hay. Had youngsters before never had this tho' mind you was a native and did well on fresh air
