Hi everyone,
I have a five year old ex race horse who is VERY laid back, he enjoys cross country but most of the rest of the time he could do with a bit more oomph!
He gets conditioning cubes, molases chaff and sugar beet.
Does anyone else have this problem and what do they do? Does anyone know of any good natural supplement I could try? or a different feed?
(I know it sounds mad "my race horse needs more energy!" ha ha)
Thanks

Thanks, I'll give it a try. He is in fab condition, really muscley, I think he's just a very laid back kind of guy! I can see why he's an EX race horse!
He does get excitable if hes doing something he enjoys which makes me think there is nothing wrong with him. Hes just a typical man - only puts effort into what he likes to do!

I was going to start a new thread but decided to just add my comment to this post. My very laid back thoroughbred x warmblood is usually fed sugar beet, chaff and cubes. Does well on it but is always lacking in energy. I have tried staypower with some effect but not enough sparkle. Was advised (with caution!) to put her on a handful of spillers instant response energy mix. Its working a treat! She is now lovely and forward with more than enough energy for the work im asking. Brilliant for those VERY laid back types!

I use top spec super conditioning flakes as a comp mix. To give my show jumper a pep before Blair as he was really lacking that sparkle. I seen results in just two weeks. Its the highest energy feed you can get. And had him looking amazing. Ill defo be using it again. I also fed an iron based detox supplement for three weeks And made sure he had a good Vita and mineral supplement as if there lackibg something that can effect energy levels Ohhh and feed salt as well
And last I'd change the chaff to alfalfa aargh its for workung horses
Hope that helps
