not really ridding advice..... more veterinary advice needed??? thinking of getting coisty hobday'ed, to better his chances and to make him more confortable while hes in heavy work - like jumping. just its sooo worrying - the risks etc - i wouldnt want to loose him does anyone have any experiences of horses having this, how did they recover, what are the risks, benifits etc and did they need any special care after the oppereation? i know what the opperation involves and i know why he makes a noise, i know that much ha ha please it would help ease my thoughts ....

Sorry for being dim, but what is 'hobday'ed' It's a wind operation, for horses that make a noise or roar. A 'Tie-Back' is also an option depending problem and vet advice. Horses that have a wind op are not permited in Ridden Hunter classes and any stallion that has had a wind op cannot be graded etc

My big lad was hobdayed but is completely fine. Can't really offer much advice as it was done before I had him. Good luck with whatever you decide xx

Duke has been hobdayed, and I know he did race after he had had it done. He's 8 now. If you have ever heard a horse whinny after it's been hobdayed?

Hiya BB
It is quite common in the bigger horses to make a noise when in hard work, I would get the vet to look and see what (if any) difference the op would make because sometimes it is not worth getting it done as it makes so little difference.
Lots of racehorses have tie backs and they come back fine - it is a pretty common procedure these days so you don't need to worry on that score.
Speak to the vets and let them guide you honey.

we had another horse hobdayed and she didnt winney proper eeither, poor coisty i love his wee gay neigh!!! vet said they can do it if we want, its not doing him any harm as long as he gets frequent rest in schooling sessions and is not doing eventing etc, i worry that he isnt getting enoug oxygen to his organs when he finishes a jumping round, he is breathing quite hard and i thin this is what makes him cough at the start when i first start ridding him??!!

Mr T has a gay whinny too!!! Bless him, but he is broken winded.... luckily for the amount of work he does, we dont encounter any noise, apart from when we are having a good gallop through the fields, but even then its not loud...... it just takes him a bit longer to recover after a good blast!
