Hi Guys, as most of you know by now I have been having a few wee probs with Rambler and his strops. He has been completely off the grass now for over a week and has ridden and worked brilliantly now for the past few days (twice a day!). Im not tempting fate at the moment and it may just be the heat that zapping him lol, but I think it may have been the grass as out grass is very rich and lush. My problem is ... I dont want to keep him off grass permantly as Im feeling guilty as he looks longingly over his tape and drools at the lush green grass . After reading various forums I have ordered Top Spec calmer and will put him onto Alpha Lite with conditioning cubes. With this Top Spec calmer, will it be safe to put him back to grass, possibly just strip grazing him? Stopping grass was temp measure to see if the grass was the problem which it seems to be, but to be honest I am looking for a solution to allow him to get grass but without the fizz. He needs no weight gain as he is bang on right at the moment... All advice welcome ps.. I will try magnesium also, although our soil has been tested and the result was medium lol. Not lacking but not too much

I took Cody off hard feed through the summer, but he was a good doer, then in winter he got Allen and Page C & C, Alpha Oil and Magic Calmer, and obviously grass in summer, haylage in winter. I could not feed him anything with Barley in it. The Magic did make a difference though ;D Every horse is different, Im sure you will get a right balance for him soon...good luck.

You'll find out what works for him and keeps him sane, it just takes a little time.

It's very much trial & error with the calmers ;D Eddie's on lush grass at the moment & he was just getting above himself so I tried him on Magic calmer but it made no difference to him at all but my friend Gird1 who's a member of snerc but hasn't got the hang of the site yet (Hi Girdie if you see this ) her tb mare has had fab results on Magic. I've got Eddie on Top spec balancer & Top spec calmer & he's doing much better, he's out 24/7. Good luck

Brooke is also on topspec calmer. She also gets wynergy equilibrium which is very low in starch which can often be a problem. It is a complete feed and you don't need anything else. She is at grass 24/7 and is looking amazing.

Brian is on Top Spec balancer and calmer and they really did make a difference to him.
If you want to double dose the top spec for the first week it will get it into his system quicker - I double dose Brian for the week running up to a show and it seems to really help him keep the lid on his tantrums LOL
Like everyone has said, it is trial and error.
Why don't you put him in strip grazing through the day and on lush grazing overnight? That means he still gets lush grass, just not all day, and he hasn't got a big grass belly when you want to ride after work?

Their stuff is brilliant isn't it - as for the out eating all day, we can't win. Keep them in they go mad, keep them out they get fat and lazy !!!!!
