this is something I have never had any problems with when it comes to eyes but this is his first winter (3rd with me) that I have had him in full work as he is sound this year and to be honest he is not really looking his best my OH commented on sunday that he hads dropped some weight and I also asked someone elses opinion and they agreed now what can I do to try and stop him dropping any more? he is really rather fit at the minute and as any of you that were at ingilston noticed not exactly lacking in energy!!!! at the minute he is fed scoops per day Alfa A oil (split between 2 feeds) 1/2 scoop per feed baileys no.17 1 scoop fibre beet. aloe vera juice garlic hoof supplement and calmer. I know I am probably just being paranoid but eyes has alway held his weight was thinking maybe taking him off the no.17 and adding a feed balancer instead?? his coat is still lovely and shiny and he is happy in himself has his teeth etc done and been wormed. is in from 2pm every day and eats 2 huge nets of hay.

You should consider whether this is just how he looks when he's fit - have you any racing pictures to compare?
If he does need a little beefing up, I've always found Spillers HDF cubes excellent at holding condition without adding fizz.

Hi Lindsay
I seem to remember that Eyes was on the light side when fit.
Before changing his feed why don't you try increasing the Baileys to 1 scoop per feed. It may just be that he needs that extra bit of the same if he is fit and burning it off.
I would try increasing what he gets first, rather than changing feeds.
Good luck honey

agree, I wouldn't change his diet if he has always been good on this, but why not just add some alpha a oil? Because it is fibre you can give him as much as he needs. Good luck

yeh i agree with lisa horses that are fit are not really ment to be fat i really think he looked great when i saw him at ingliston, its quite natural for horses to loose a bit of weight in winter anyway to be honest as long as he is happy in him self that is. yes up his ceriel intake more and if you are changing then bailies no1 is great for condition without fizz
