Dear Everyone
May I apologise firstly for starting a new thread on a similar topic - but each horse is different and i'm needing advice.
My horse Pete who will be 14 years old has not done so well this winter - he seems to be very 'ribby' and I would like to see him a litter fatter. It isn't a health issue as the vet has been out recently for vaccinations etc. It isn't a dental problem as he has just had his teeth checked.
There has been a change in field feeding in that hay has not been given to the horses this year but extra hay is given to him overnight in the stable.
So currently he gets two feeds per day - once in the morning (just less than half a bucket) and the same again in the evening. He gets oil and garlic in both feeds but the actually feed is really basic - alpha a or something similar. He gets two - three hay bails overnight which he sometimes doesn't get through.
However with his feeds he usually gets bored towards the end and you have to tip it on the floor - he usually eats this overnight (although who knows).
He can get fizzy so I wouldn't want something that fizzes him up too much - but I would like to see him better covered because it upsets me to see him so thin after the winter.
What could you guys suggest for fattening Pete up?
Many thanks in advance

you don't say what Pete is getting fed. I have found that fibre is the way to go. top spec has been the one that works for me. cool condition cubes, feed balancer, speedi beet and a glug of oil. i would call top spec and get some advice. they are really helpful.
