what shocking news, I only met Peter once, the day we met for me to collect El B. Despite us meeting at Hexham races and him having a busy day there with some promising runners, he took the time to have a chat and see taht we knew as much about El B as he could, he made a lasting impression of being a genuine gentleman.
RIP Peter Monteith
deepest sympathies to all his family and friends.

Thank you Lucinda for this post, and thank you everyone for your kind words - I could not face posting anything yesterday as I did not want to accept he is gone. Spent the day with his bother D1ck and sister in law Sheila - they have been lovely and a great support. Ben - I remember the first night you met Peter, you couldn't even bite your fingers at the end of the night. remember the fire extinguisher episode after quite a lot of absinthe I think I have never laughed so much in my life - Peter has left me with a wealth of memories like that. Peter touched so many lives, left such wonderful memories with us all and he will be so very much missed - and always loved. L xxx

The powder extinguisher that Peter thought was water, by any chance!? I think the white Christmas came a few months early that year at Crichton. East is East and West is West, Lisa's Fish is The Best ...

'east is east, west is west, Lisa's tantrums are the best' - never used to fail to make me laugh and forget I was mad at him
