I couldn't make up my mind which place to put if so I've gone for this.
This is out of genuine nosiness.
How many of you use a straight feed diet? And how do you maintain your older horse on it?
I felt the need to put Proph on Old Faithful in the winter as he was dropping condition - however he has had to go back on Farriers formula as his feet started to crumble.
So Prophie is back on a straight diet which is high fibre low starch and looking rather happy on it as for the winter he'll have his remodernised shelter by then
It suits me as I have a basic feed system for all my animals - sheep and goat included. Which can be altered to suit the needs of each animal.

Yes me too, straights for me feed horse, guinea pigs and rabbits on them also. Very easy and cannot beat the old barley for condition without having to feed masses! Cheap and cheerful, most conditioning cubes etc are just bulked up with more barley! I still feed straight oats if the horses are needing a sparkle when in alot of work, which hasn't been recently but maybe one day soon....

Scrumps survived on oats for years without getting hyper - put him on anything like pasture mix or cool mix and he went nuts
