My lad has been shoe-less for about 8 weeks now....at first he was like a lame dog , but now he is happy as larry . He does have typical TB flat feet, and he was sore after shoeing before . I was wondering if anybody else was shoeless? I am ok to ride him as we have an outdoor school with a good surface . xxx

I took the shoes off mine at the end of September, since they aren't going to be ridden again till April.
Flynn is great, but Dennis is starting to develop a nasty crack, so he'll get fronts on as soon as the farrier can come back out.
I think barefoot suits some, but not others & you don't know till you try.

Hi Gemma
Deb G is the barefoot expert - Malachy is barefoot and he does endurance and does well at it too.
If you have any questions etc you'll be best to email Deb as I know she is mega busy at the moment and not on here too much just now.

Tickle's barefoot and farrier trimmed. I'm really lucky to have a great farrier. It's taken a long time to get her feet right. She's had white line disease in all four feet but thats nearly grown out now. Tickles diet helps her feet. Shes on a highfibre low sugar diet. She also gets cal mag for her feet. MagOx would be better but she wont eat that. Alfalfa makes her feet sore. If he's sound in the school, I dont see why he cant be ridden in there. Different surfaces are good for transitioning their feet. Hoof boots help as well. You can get them from www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk/I agree with LisaH speak to DebG she knows a lot about barefoot.

Bugsy is doing really well barefoot, touch wood he's not showing any signs of being footsore even though the track to the field is pretty rough, if Bob loses one he can't walk up that track without going hopping lame. All he's had done was a trim by the farrier and he's not getting anything added to his feed or put on his feet.

Shally was barefoot for a year when he was off with his, back, he was fine in the field but couldn't cope with our gravel drive or when the field is rutted and frosty. He now just has fronts on and seems fine. Charlie pony is bare foot, my farrier just gives him a field trim, and his feet are perfect. My farrier comes out every 7 weeks and Charlie sometimes doesn't need doing, but thats good pony feet rather than cr*p TB feet. Sure DebG will give you some advice as Mal has fabby feet!!! You wouldn't believe they were on a TB xxx

2 of mine are fronts only they cant manage without them. Parker is barefoot and seems to manage in hand fine like that ridden may be different. Poor old Proph has rubbish feet and needs permanently shod. He's coping ok in just fronts while he's not ridden but will need all fours soon. I think if they can manage fine without then why bother. Thankfully my fab farriers keeps them all neat and tidy
