I think this may be a rather unusual post from an owner of a TB but I am actually getting a bit concerned about eyes weight or excess weight it should be!!!! he honestly looks like he is about to drop a foal or two I weigh taped him this morning and he is 540kg he is only 15.3hh-16hh so is not by any means big height wise his coat is in the best condition and you can almost see your reflection in him he is so shiny but his increasing waist line is concerning me.
His diet consists of
morning 1 stubbs scoop of hi fi and 1/4 scoop of speedibeet
tea
1 scoop of hi fi 2 cups of top spec feed balancer 1/2 scoop of speedibeet
joint supplement calmer and cider vinegar
also carrots and apples
he is in reasonably hard work is turned out during the day and in at night with 2 hay nets.
would you guys be concerned???

My level of concern would depend on how much muscle he is carrying, coz muscle weighs more than fat!
Dennis is also 15.3 & probably more finely built than Eyes & is currently weighing in at 500kg. Dennis is fed Alfa - A instead of Hi-Fi , but his feed quantity is about the same as Eyes gets & he is fit for what I would call light work - 1 hours schooling & a wee bit of jumping or 2 hour fast hack, 3-4 times a week.
Major difference is mine are out in a 23 acre hilly field, so are burning off a fair bit of energy just grazing. If Eyes is getting a bit too round, maybe leave him out longer or try Hi-Fi lite?
Also curiousity question from me - why do you give your boy tea ?

his tea is his main feed and his breakfast is just a tken sohe does not get upset when the rest get fed.

linda i think she means dinner ( night feed) not a cup of tea i think anyway lol i personally wouldnt be all that worried about a TB being a bit over weight coming into winter - thats what you want is it not? i think weight wise he sounds ok so long as he doesnt have deposits of fat on his neck and over his back remember though that what we consider hard work is not what a feed specialist would say is hard work hard work is like a race horse in training or an eventer !! not one that gets hacked /schooled for 40 mins a day but i guessyou have to make sure his weight doesnt effect his legs tho eh? im sure your just being parra tho im sure he is fine

linda i think she means dinner ( night feed) not a cup of tea i think anyway lol See these Edinburgers! ETA Thought I'd better put my thinking in context. I used to know a German Shepherd breeder who, every morning, gave his foundation lady dog a bowl of tea (milk & 2 sugars) along with 2 slices of toast & Lurpak butter (she didn't like any other brand!) Given that, I'm perfectly up for believing that Eyes got tea mixed through his evening meal

I wouldn't be overly concerned at this time of year and with you living in Scotland, I would just keep an eye on him as chances are when the weather comes in really cold he'll drop a little anyway.

hi mysticforest when I got eyes (my frst TB) I assumed I would have to feed him loads of conditioning feed etc but no way I remember having the vet upto eyes the beginning of summer last year due to lameness and she said he looks like he has laminitis but it quite unusual for a TB and she then took off his rug and said well actually due to his excess weight it was more than ikely haha ha
eyes is fed on a diet of hi fi and top spec feed balancer and weighs I think the same as his pal Lili (on a weigh tape) and she is a welsh cob!!!!
I do think I am very lucky with eyes as I do have to watch he does not get too fat rather than losing weight I have known him to develop a slight gutter in his back end when he was off work last summer!!!!

:DI wish I had that problem with Todd.I always have trouble keeping weight on him especially in the winter.I would be much happier if he was a bit on the podgey side through the winter, but thats never going to happen as I just think its the way he is.He can be a bit of stress head and obviously that doesn't help
