Vets been to see Tickle and says although her feet have changed shape dramatically and the farrier's done a brilliant job, she now needs to have front shoes on and pads. The constant wet weather hasn't helped and her soles are really thin and its making her sore. So tell me about shoes with pads. Do the feet get stinky under the pads? What kind of pads do you get? Do you just pick feet out or do you wash them as well?

Hiya Post pedal-osteitis, Allie had pads on for nearly a year. Was initially just rubber covering the sole & held on by the shoe. Stayed on for as long as his shoes did & never had any problems with feet getting stinky. After a wee while, we tried filling the gap between the sole & the pad with silicon to provide extra support. Coz that also sealed off any air circulation, his soles got even softer & we stuck to just plain pads, then took pads off & used heartbar shoes with Keratex to harden everything up. Allie never had great feet & stayed on heartbars for a very long time, but once we got the balance sorted, he remained in work till the end of his life. So, I think it's looking good for Tickle!

Bobby had pads on. His where like rubber one's that went under the normal shoe. The gap between the pad an the sole was filled with silicone and once it was set nothing got underneath it. He was great with them on, up until then I had problems with sore feet, abscesses and bruises depending on the weather. He hasn't got them on at the moment as he went 6 months with nothing on and his sole hardened up but I won't hesitate to have them put back on if he needs them.

I know of a horse who had this and it did work, the farrier filled the pad with purple glue stuff goes between pad and hoof and keeps it clean, although this horse got thrush from it but it worked for him
