I have been asked to post by Humphrey's owner.
I met her at the Oatridge parade and we had a chat about ''Humphrey''
I think Janice's email says it all, and also shows how hard this decision has been for her.
Here is the email
Hi Lisa, Thankyou for calling me back. Have attached some photo's of Humphrey.
I bought Humphrey in July after he was placed out on loan to a young girl who changed yards/name and he was out jumping. The RSPCA picked him up after a phonecall he had lost alot of weight and condition, the owner could not afford time/money to keep him, thats when I bought him .
He is my first horse and I knew at the time he may be a bit much for me (novice rider) but I felt if I spent time and money to build his trust and get him back to A1 condition I could find him another home suitable to his needs.
He is a great horse to work with and is now standing to let you mount, the issues I am having are the leaps into canter from walk/trot once he settles he goes really well, ( Have had saddle and back checked) He is now working on the bit and looks very good I feel he would be suitable for dressage. I have advertised him at £2,000 with a full wardrobe I am receiving calls and interest into his jumping ability.
I was very fortunate to see you demonstration at SNEC recently and very impressed and I feel Humphrey would be ideal for the right person to show him as an ex-racer and would be gratful if you could see if anyone would be intrested.
I am hoping to buy a horse more suitable for my riding ability but I feel I owe it to Humphrey to find a good home.
He is a chestnut TB 15.3 Wetherby's registered 13 years old with very good manners and boxes/clip/shoes etc. I do appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you soon. Best Regards Janice
I have spoken with janice and whilst he is very safe to hack, school etc he does get very strong if you canter him in a field with other horses, and sometimes when on his own. He will walk and trot round fields on his own but it is the canter work that gees him up and Janice does not feel experienced enough to deal with that.
He is lovely to handle in every way and it is purely because of the cantering in fields issue that Janice feels he needs a more experienced rider.
She would prefer him to go to a hacking/dressage/endurance home rather than pure juping, simply because his previous owners jumped him to excess and she thinks he will not enjoy it.
So, if you are looking for a lovely chestnut gelding - I would say NOT a novice ride because of this cantering in fields issues - then maybe you should give Janice a call. Tel 07917 137651
Here are some lovely pics of him.
