Well, paddy ran off with me today, i could not see but, they say my face was white, i felt sick, so sick i could not even have a cig!!!!!!!!!!! It was a horrible feeling, i would not mind but i have ridden him the last 3 days, out and in the school. Im going to try a market harborough on him, see if thats helps. I have been telling people that he is strong and im finding it hard to stop him, they have been saying its me, yes ok i might not be helping but, i was out with 2 others and they could not believe what they saw and agree that i had no chance off stopping him, he was going and that was that, the breaks had gone. 1 said to me, i knew you said he was strong but i never realised just how strong he was till today!!!! I dont want to be changing his bit all the time, he is in a 3 ring gag, which was on the bottom ring with a flash noseband!!! I have tryed; straight bar snaffle, normal snaffle, nushu wheely thing, fulmer with a rotery thing in the middle, drop cheek snaffle, straight bar pelham with port, warterford snaffle, dr bristol, and his gag. He is fine in his snaffles while in the school, my problem in i have nothing when jumping and like today, he decided to goand go he went i had no chance. I had his teethdone 6months ago and he had them done again on tuesday, so i know its not his teeth Has anybody got any good ideas? ?

Who did you go out with honey?
I know you've had problems with him, and not being there today obviously I didn't see what happened, but, can I just point out a couple of things, bearing in mind I have ridden out with you in an open field.
If Paddy has been the same as Bob, then he hasn't been out in the field for a couple of days, so yes, you've ridden him but it's not the same as him being out in a field and having a bezz with the other guys.
The weather, it's been quite windy today.
Riding out with others, if I remember right, everytime you've had a problem, you've been out with more than 1 other horse.
A Market Harbrough may help, but don't forget, if they are determined to go, they will go and Bob has broke a MH once when he went.
Also, haven't you altered his feed recently? It may be too much for him now he's not getting out everyday.
It is really scary when it happens, and I'm sure a lot of people on here have been through the same thing, I know I certainly have. Hopefully today was just a combination of things and a one of.

Poor you. Not happened to me for years but I am sure it would scare me to death, thats the one thing Shally doesn't do (touching wood!) Thank God!!! No advice really, Bobby seems to have covered everything, but just wanted to reiterate, it doesn't matter whether you are riding a 12.2 pony or a shire, if they want to go they will and there is nothing you can do about it We had a naughty pony at my old yard down south, and Blyth tait (i think it was him, anyway if not a mega famous Eventer) voluntered to get on him and sort him out. said pony just p*ssed off with him across the field, it was very funny. Anyway it can happen to anyone. Have a stiff drink and youll be fine. Goodluck Goodluck Goodluck xxxx

I went out with gymbo and grace up mile hill. He over took both off them, if felt like i was trying to hold a brick wall up. Yes i have changed his feed, for about 2 months now he has had 1/2 scoop of sugar beet and 1 scoop of alpha-a 2x a day with his 1/2 scoop of no4 and 1/2 scoop c&c.
Since he has been on that feed i have been out on the top field jumping and cantering about with him, yes he was pulling but i managed to stop him.
It was windy but he went from the bottom off the hill, where it was not so windy. I did a lot of canter work with him in the school late last night, that was so he could stretch his legs.
As katie put it, he was head straight out and he was gone, maybe its time i accepted that he has raced and need to learn how to ride him as if he has!!!!!!

It was like he was in another world off his own, paddy is not a nasty horse in anyway, I dont think he did it because he wanted to be nasty, he just wanted to be in front off the other 2, and intended to stay there!!

It's not a nice feeling at all, sometimes they just seem to have the need for a blow out. Hopefully he'll be Mr Sensible from now on

Hugs - been there ywice when Allie was alive & it's the scariest thing out.
If something has scared him into running (for Allie it was the airbrakes releasing on a big lorry which had very kindly pulled over & switched his engine off!), then they just go into paninc mode & don't hear you. Stronger bit or MH won't help, so only thing you can do it is pull & release on alternate reins to try & get them to come back to you.
I found that putting Allie in stronger bits just made him more confused. 2 things finally worked - loose ring French link and loose ring copper snaffle with lozenge link. Loosening off/removing his flash also made a huge difference, as he had less to fight against.
Both of these bits are 5.5 inch - let me know if you'd like a loan of either of them.
