Ok i have been quite lucky in the past with this, but lucy just wont stand still, getting on or off!!! What is the best way around this, on my own?? She is not too bad if someone is holding her,but i dont have someone there all the time.

Mints. It will take time, ask her to stand, when she does, give her a mint, when you've got on her tell her again to stand, give her a mint, then tell her to walk on. If she tries to walk on,ask her to stand, when she does give her a mint then tell her to walk on. It might be easier to get her into this routine in hand, but eventually she'll work out what you want. Then you can start weaning her of the mints.

patienc and repetition, break the whole process into little chunks and repeat the first step until she is really happy with that and then move on to step 2, i dont use polos (ML does not do polos) -but praise and stroking - what ever works best.
Just take your time and dont get onto the next stage until she is really happy

Im not going to be riding her that much, so it will give me chance to do ground work with her.

agree with all the above, and if you are not going to be riding i would start on the ground and then when she is happy with that move on to getting her to do it while you are on a mounting block goodluck, it is time and patience but she will come round. : )

That's brilliant, you are making such good progress with her. Really pleased for you. She is going to make a really nice horsey for you.

thats great well done. i get on from a mounting block and make them stand while i do this if they dont stand i hassle them till they get bored and relise its easier just to stand - this only works if they are avoiding you getting on cos they cant be bothered working lol not if they are hyper maniacs lol
i then give them a treat for standing and sometimes make a point of just asking them to stand for anything up to 10 mins just to make a point and to make sure they are doing what i want them too so far iv got hem all standing nice this way
