I used a waterford on troy... He had a very sensitive mouth but was also very strong... One thing I would say is that you have to ride gently with the waterford, build up the contact and never ever snatch it up... Logically, it is so bendy and flxible in their mouth (unlike the 2 bar or straight bar snaffles) they must feel really nice... Just wanted to add that I have used one for a long time with my big boy, for hacking and jumping (he does schooling/dressage in a snaffle). I use a 3-ring (dutch gag) version as I read that it was called the "Eventer Bit" ; when Q ran away with me it was like I wasn't there, but I've not had any problems since I started using this. I had similar brakes with a hard rubber pelham, but when I realised how big his tongue is I thought the Waterford would actually be kinder. And, like someone else said, the bit is only as strong as the hands using it.
