Hi all
We have been asked to do a parade of ex racehorses at Musselburgh Races on 22 August this year.
The first race is at 2.20 so I assume we will be parading at around 12.30 ish
I know its a long way ahead just now but if you would like to do the parade please let me know by email to scotnorthexracers@fsmail.net and I will send you a 'profile' form to fill in for the commentator to read out whilst you are on parade.
For those who have not done this before, here are a few pointers to what happens
1. We MUST start and finish the parade on time, we can not hold up the racing so if you are coming, please be sure you are tacked up and mounted at the given time - which will be given closer to the day.
2. If you do not want to ride, you can do the parade in hand.
3. Horses should be clean and well presented, they do not need to be plaited and if your horse is barefoot, also not a problem.
4. Riders/in hand people MUST wear a riding hat.
5. If you are doing the parade ridden, you can have someone on the ground with you in the parade ring if you feel safer this way.
6. You can wear what you like in terms of show gear, SJ gear, XC colours etc. Most people tend to come in showing gear but if your main sport is XC, for example, then you can wear your colours if you want to :-)
7. Horses MUST be up to date with all their innoculations and you should bring their passport with you on the day.
8. We parade in the parade ring and do not go onto the race track, so don't panic!
9. You should try and keep your horse at walk in the parade ring. What I mean is we can not to a trot or canter 'lap of honour' Obviously some horses will get fresh and jog etc, that is fine, but we can not consciously go for a trot or canter in the parade ring if you see what I mean :-)
So - let's make this yet another fabulous display of the ScotNorth horses.
There will be a few awards at the parade such as best turned out, best veteran, best condition etc and if we can get some sponsors for the day then as well as rosettes we will award prizes too. More details closer to the time.
If people are wanting to travel from afar and want to stay over, I certainly will have 4 stables you are welcome to use as mine will all be turned out. I will just be up VERY early to bath my grey lad :-)
So, I hope this will be a great day out - maybe after the parade we could arrange to go to Dalkeith Park or Musselburgh beach for a good bit of fun
Numbers will be limited to a 'safe' amount and if we have to restrict it will be first come, first served as they say.
If you want to come with your horse, just add your name and horses name below.
Thanks
Lisa
